The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway

We talked at the October meeting about replacing our December choice (Money, Money, Money by Ed McBain - which appears to be a "fluff" detective novel with nothing significant to discuss) with The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway. This looks like an absolute winner!

Here's a clip that gives you a 3 minute taste of the book.

If we are interested in studying this instead, Jen and I will put together discussion questions and come up with a Sarajevo menu.

  1. This book looks great - my vote is that we make this our December book.

I just had a quick look at the library to see if I could get the book, and it turns out that there is a book club kit for this book, but I can't guarantee that I can get the books in time. I have requested them, and I would know by our November meeting whether or not I could get them for everyone, but that may not leave enough time for everyone to get their hands on the book and read it for December.

Let me know what you think!

  2. That sounds great! Jen and I are working on some discussion questions, too. We will have menu ideas ready for the November meeting.

  3. I know this doesn't go with the book, but as the meeting would be mid-December, is anyone interested in doing a cookie-exchange for the December meeting?

Just throwing it out there... :)

  4. I'd love to do a cookie exchange! I've never done one before, but I've always wanted to. You can count me in :)

  5. I'm in - what were you thinking Kate? About 1/2 dozen fancy cookies or squares for each participant?
