another man's war

Just finished reading this book "another man's war", it was a quick and easy read. Africa has always interested me, the things that happen there are horrible, especially with the gorilla wars and children.

Sam Childer's is an interesting fellow, he was a former gang biker and now dedicates his life to saving children in Sudan. Reading his book gave me many mixed emotions, he says he found God which I don't doubt but he still seems a little proud of his old drug, womanizing, and fighting ways. He even says now that he likes to fight, which I don't think is always a bad thing especially in Sudan. He seems very proud to walk in there with a gun and start shooting. He talks a lot about how God talks to him and has some interesting theories. Satan has tried to kill him, he has anointing oil he uses on people while he prays for them and in two different instances the woman were healed, one from cancer another from a flesh eating disease.

The movie "Machine Gun Preacher" is based on the story of Sam Childers. Has anyone seen this movie? I think it is still in theatres. Would imagine it would be a pretty violent movie.

As a discerning Christian there would be a lot in this book that I would be skeptical about but the story of what these children go through and the politics of Africa is very interesting especially the way America is trying to help. In our world oil almost seems more important than the lives of children.

A book I would recommend reading is "A long way Gone" the memoirs of a boy soldier. Such a good read!

I did enjoy this book and my heart goes out to those suffering in Africa especially those who do not know God as their saviour.

Would love to hear your thoughts if you have read any of these books.
