Book Choices for July-December 2014

Ready to choose some books again?  Please take some time to scroll through this list (and follow links) so that you are ready to choose books at our May meeting.  I just copied our list from last year, deleted the books we choose and added in a few additional options.  If you have an additional suggestions for one/more categories, please edit the post to add it to the list so that we can all check it out too.

  • July - Travels to Remember... a travelogue from anywhere around the world
          Here's an amazing list of travelogue options!  from that list, my top three suggestions are:

  1. The Bitter Cry of Children by John Spargo  ( published in 1906 concerning the horrors of child labour)
  2. Welcome to Shirley by Kelly McMasters (a memoir about growing up in a town polluted by nuclear waste and chemical spills)
  3. here's a helpful list of best muckraking books ; and other list of muckrakers
  4. Bet the Farm by Fredrick Kaufman

  • December - Get Cooking 
 - any suggestions?  We looking for good food with a bit of a "story" to it :-)

  2. A Homemade Life: Stories and Recipes from My Kitchen Table by Molly Wizenberg
  3. Sous Chef by Michael Gibney. 
  4. My Paris Kitchen Recipes and Stories by David Lebovitz

  1. Found a couple cookbooks I thought looked interesting:
    ~ Sous Chef by Michael Gibney. I believe this is more of a Nobel about what it is like to be a sous chef in a high end restaurant. I think it would be interesting:)
    ~ My Paris Kitchen Recipes and Stories by David Lebovitz
    ~ also the lady who wrote "The DInner: a love story" also has a new one called "dinner the play book".
    Just thought these looked good;)
